Not gonna lie. I can’t fathom using much less recommending this software. It’s at least 20 years behind. nostr:note1dczv938hu3xfpnkyzmcpamz8ymh65fmutjgy4dup9a6n426kldsqf5lsdm

Onlyoffice is the only usable one I think.

Yes. Libre is the first bloat I remove from every Linux install (followed shortly by Firefox) and OnlyOffice is one of the first installed.

And are you replacing Firefox with Librewolf ?

No. I refuse to use anything based on Mozilla software. I use some form of Chromium variant.

Can I ask why you don’t like them ? (Are you using Brave ?)

Nothing is tested for Firefox. Nothing. I’ve had unending trouble getting advanced things to work (like VTTs for D&D) to the point I just assume it won’t work the moment they say they run Firefox.

I also have some pretty strong personal qualms about the operation and stances taken by Mozilla.

I do not run Brave, though I understand why others do. It offers a nice compromise. I hop about a bit, but atm I use Edge on all platforms. I do my filtering elsewhere in the network stack (pihole, etc) and also have UBlock.

There is a line for every person, between certain of their ideals, and making things work (pragmatism). I respect it’s different for everyone, but I’m very heavily skewed towards pragmatism.

That what matters ! The best choice is the choice that suits your needs in term of features, and threat model.

Really? Does everything I need and costs nothing every month

OnlyOffice is also FOSS and does a better job rendering office files, has a better UX that’s more familiar, etc.

If it works for you that’s great, but I don’t recommend it to people. OnlyOffice is a much easier transition from office for new users in my experience.

I’ll check it out!

Oh… Only Office is MUCH prettier than libreoffice…

Usually renders office docs better too.

Oh? I've been using that suite exclusively for as long as I can remember. Although admittedly my needs are simple. The text editor, the spreadsheet and the presentation applications do everything I need them to do. What do you feel are the missing features?

The UX is old and dissimilar to office, and I have a lot of issues with it not rendering office files from vendors, etc correctly. Usually botches the formatting.

The first point is important when transitioning new users. Less so if it’s what you’ve been using.

Hmmm, come to think of it, it's true that the formatting is not always perfect when coming from Word files, etc. I didn't even know Onlyoffice existed.

Looking at their github, I don't see a gpg public key file and a checksum file which I usually prefer to have before putting anything on my computer. Apt-cache on xubuntu doesn't seem to show that it's part of the repositories.

I'll try to find the verification files somewhere. If you know where I can find them, please let me know.

They aren’t in the repo unfortunately, as Ubuntu distributes them as a snap 😥

They are also available as a flatpak

You can also add their repo (includes gpg):

Thank you! Yeah, I'm less a fan of snaps and flatpacks but the repository alternative is interesting.

I asked the livechat for the checksum but they referred me to their forum and this answer in the forum says they don't have the checksums https://forum.onlyoffice.com/t/download-file-verification-checksum/890

Good thing that they have the repository option. Thanks!
