I agree with you which is why I’ve always looked at these social welfare programs as a type of bonus rather than as supplementary income.

I work and save with what I know I have, and if I get something extra then great. If not then I know I won’t be fucked because I planned accordingly.

Problem is one is forced into it, so it's not great having to accept t that part of what should be your future income is most probably going to be worthless
