This post is an opportunity to share a coding protocol I have been working on called BLISSC: Biological Life Support Systems Code. It requires studying how waves and diversity of information is transmitted and interpreted through organic observation of neuron activity in critters like us humans, owls, peacocks, and spiders.
This @Animals post describes what humans witness as a dance. There is a lot more happening at an atomic level beneath that surface area interpretation from a limited perspective.
The spider's "fan" serves to redirect waves, sounds, frequencies - all received by the female as either a noisy clarinet, screeching trumpets, elegant quartet, or symphonic masterpiece. The female is not selecting based on aesthetic and dance moves. She is selecting for range of frequency transmission to facilitate intellectual evolution of offspring.
The elements of our universe have sounds, it is the language of spiders:

Spiders are beautiful. They are complex critters whose lives are steeped in sound. They are plugged into our world's natural dj 24/7. A perpetual ⚡erenade of information. Gifts on the wind.
How can one see math in a web?
Where does code and math fit?

Webs are beautiful manifestations of the sounds of information at an atomic level.
Spiders read the code of waves in the wind like a composer piecing together a grand symphony, and they tune their webs like natural musicians, pro guitarists.

Here's another side quest to better understand how sound has shape:

Webs are beautiful manifestations of the sounds of information. Spiders read the code of waves in the wind like a composer piecing together a grand symphony.
Sounds are elements, are colors, are numbers, are pictures ...are all information.
Critters and plants all respond to similar sounds, colors, waves - and interpret them all the same. We feel emotions from songs, our ecosystems respond to the information received. It is more than sound. More than waves. More than feeling.
The information does not change, only the life form and mode of acquiring the information. This is the basis for a standard of packets of uncoded meaning, waiting to be interpreted between organic life in the BLISSC protocol.
Anyway, happy ⚡aturday 🌻
