Gotta copy their nPub and put "@" before nPub.
If you follow them, then the @ brings up name options
Otherwise you have to @ and then paste their npub
At least in Damus
Ya it's pretty annoying. The one that is guaranteed to work is using @npub instead of username

Try to use @npub of the user, it works better for me on Android!
It is still pretty shaky around here and when you say “here” since we all use different clients it might be misleading to give you any suggestions. I tried Damus on phone and Nostgram on Web and my user experience almost completely different.
