at first I laughed, but it would actually be kind of gross now that you mention it...

and it makes me realize that I'm way more comfortable zapping strangers than friends. If my closest friends were on nostr I would feel very weird zapping them.

I’ve definitely zapped friends. Think of it more like a magic trick. You tap them on the shoulder and suddenly a dime appears in their pocket

I totally love the magic part of it. but it's the aspect of "paying friends for their comments" part that feels weird. I'm in a handful of signal friend group chats and if the "laughing emoji" responses were replaced with micropayments I feel like it would get weird fast and we'd keep odd little balance sheets in our heads with eachother.

but maybe the problem is I'm erroneously imagining I'd use a zap for "good comment!" where actually I'd be using it for "you just provided real value to me", which admittedly happens way less in friend group chats and I guess wouldn't feel any different than paying a friend for gas + wear and tear on a shared road trip or something.

There is a reason I refuse to connect a wallet to this account. All zaps between peers is gross to me. I can understand zapping regular content, but I believe that zaps undermine discussions.
