#Bitcoin is the only asset in history that is absolutely scarce. We know exactly how many bitcoin there is (21 million).

This number cannot and will not change.

We have never dealt with an absolutely scarce asset before, and hence, we really don't know how such things turn out.

However, one thing we do know for certain is that the market is running out of bitcoin.

There are approximately 1.7 million bitcoin left to be purchased and decreasing. This number has to be shared among all world governments, all the world institutions and all the world's population.

If you don't own any and you decide not bother with these last 1.7 million bitcoin, then you will most likely never be able to purchase it. For the rest of your life!

Other traditional assets such as gold, real estate, stocks or bonds, can always increase in numbers, which in turn means, anyone can purchase them at any time.

But not bitcoin.

Tick tock tick tock, when will you grab yourself some before they run out?

There is one other asset that is absolutely scarce… gold. Unless a meteor laden with it strikes the planet we will not find any more of it. Sadly we moved away from the gold standard for currency backing.

So how much gold is there (total mined + total unmined + total undiscovered yet)?

Fair question. But the answer is still a finite amount. You can’t “make” more gold.

That's known as scarce yes, but it's still not absolute scarcity regardless of whether you can or can't "make" more.

Only #bitcoin is absolutely scarce.

True but also keep in mind that what drives value in anything is perception…. And until we get perception to change about #bitcoin no amount of scarcity will enable it to be viewed by banks and governments and people we buy from as little more than a “stock or bond”.

That said I still HODL my bitcoin.
