Oh, and this was a very realistic test. The mobile device was thrown in a backpack with the antenna not facing up and the backpack was onky about 2 feet off the ground.

With a properly oriented antenna, one could likely go further, especially if it was up by your shoulder or mounted on top of a car or truck.

I intentionally do my range tests this way to make sure I underpromise and overdeliver. I don't want people looking at the range map that I'm making and get disappointed if their reception isn't as good as the map claims.
