Small #meshtastic #solar node update:

Range is about 1.3 miles in the direction of town and at leat 1.6 miles in the direction of cornfields.

I do not have line of sight. My antenna is about 20 ft off the ground and surrounded by trees and houses.

The trees are easily 50 ft tall, so it's challenging to get above them. Obviously I am scoping out tall buildings and towers as I cruise around town doing my range testing.

Deciduous or evergreen trees surround your node?

Oh, and this was a very realistic test. The mobile device was thrown in a backpack with the antenna not facing up and the backpack was onky about 2 feet off the ground.

With a properly oriented antenna, one could likely go further, especially if it was up by your shoulder or mounted on top of a car or truck.

I intentionally do my range tests this way to make sure I underpromise and overdeliver. I don't want people looking at the range map that I'm making and get disappointed if their reception isn't as good as the map claims.

im thinking about trying meshcore.. but the meshtastic is doing what i wanted it to do so far, im just curious to try it to see if i can get a longer range ack.
