2 yes, although there are still some KYC-free options. But the Bitcoin keys and Lightning node are managed entirely by the custodian, so you could be rugged at any time. I use custodial Lightning wallets for small amounts (like zapping around on nostr, now). I use a non-custodial wallet (Phoenix is a good option, if you don't run CLN or LND) for larger amounts and self-custody. But again you won't easily get the LN address (“email”) this way.
