Weekend Coinfession:

When I first heard about Bitcoin and tried learning about it years ago, I really struggled. Learning resources were hard for me to find and every article I read or image I saw had this picture or drawing of a round golden physical bitcoin. My brain couldn’t make sense of a purely digital currency when all I saw were images of a physical coin everywhere I looked and in every article I read. It confused the hell out of me so I walked away and didnt come back for way too long. Live and learn.

Glad you made it.

That’s why the personal journey is totally worth it. Your not alone. Everyone’s journey takes time, and everyone wishes they could’ve really seen it a bit earlier.

But we see it now 🟠🟣

🤙

💯 and back then not a soul I knew was curious so I had no friends to ask or #plebchain to go to. Takes time and humility. I say this cause there’s no shame, everyone learns at their own pace. But its worth sharing the journey even with the stops and starts.

You’re here now and you’re early AF. 🫂

Glad you made it mate 🤙🏽 I think everyone could relate on how hard it was the first go arounds but nevertheless you made it 🫂

Your still early.🚀

Can relate 100%. It is like you did put down exactly what happened to me in 2017.. did some google.. 10 mins.. not enough.

Had to wait late 2020 to give it an hour, then.. rabbit hole. 🐇🕳️☯️

Takes as long as it takes. These lessons will teach everyone in time. But its good to share the speedbumps along the way.

I think the stupid gold coin stock photos probably set back bitcoin discovery for so many people. The concept took me over a year to grasp from the first time I heard about it too. For a while, I thought the only way to use it was to be a miner, and that seemed too outside my area of expertise that I didn’t take another look at it until I eventually saw an Andreas Antonopoulos video where it all began to make sense.

Something intangible like bitcoin is so foreign to humanity - inevitable we’d try to represent it with something physical. I get what you’re sayin tho. Good point

Its like skeuomorphic design that confuses people and keeps their brains trapped in the old ways

Hey we designed your website to look like a TV set from 1983.

😂

How brain works with association.. that was the gap we had to overcome with that shitty gold painted bit_koin

That interesting, I was kind of different in that I was sold on the tech, proof of work, and understood a fairly decent amount how it worked in 2017, but it wasn’t until 2020 and all the shenanigans that I really went don’t the rabbit hole and truly understand it from a social-politico-economical standpoint. I had a hard time explaining the “why” to people because they didn’t care about the “how” as much then. Now I know both including deeper parts like lightning, and taproot/ordinals.

PS-Faketoshi is still faketoshi and he hasn’t yet proven me, a judge or anyone otherwise. Suck it CSW!

Andreas doesn’t gets the credit he deserves. Dude was the foundation for me to get started digging deeper cause he forced me to ask myself the right questions which in turn kept the curiously going and began that journey. Dude is a legend.

Yeah as for the physical gold coin images, i remember it clear as day ‘if its a digital currency why am I seeing these physical bitcoins?!?’ And the whole Casascius coins thing made it even more confusing.

I too can relate. I had a friend beg me to come with him to buy at the btc atm downtown in 2011. I told him nah it’s all fake. Few years later, was about to create a mt. Gox acct but I didn’t want to send them a picture of my passport. Then Gox got hacked. Dodging the Mt. Gox blow up made me follow btc much more closely and that’s really how I got sucked in. But yes I did miss opportunities to buy in 2011 and late-ish 2013. Would have probably lost them all anyway not understanding the value of what I held.

Yeah 100% with ya there. Even today we are ahead of 99% of the world population just by having this conversation so its all relative. But crazy to think there’s friends of mine out there now who I have pushed so hard to learn and still don’t care. Wish i had that years ago.

It will humble everyone. 🤙🏻

Your friends will eventually pay the price of admission they deserve. As we all did. But yes, we are still so incredibly early.

with the addictiveness of zapping people on nostr, its feeling like we might see a shift forward in adoption and usage. Lightning is going to make btc ubiquitous in peoples lives. And they won’t even realize it.

💯. I remember when the facebook like button took the world by storm and then in no time at all ‘likes’ were a legit thing everywhere. Zaps are so much better and have a more legit incentive structure as well so im optimistically hopeful.
