It's a measure of influence. There's other centrality measures that are measuring closeness or connectedness, which are similar (but not the same).

Google's PageRank came out of this graph research / these network metrics. We could play with that and call it FriendStrength (or something not as stupid)

Haha, the more names and variations the better!

Lack of global ranking means less people using/seeing it as a status symbol.
