It's a measure of influence. There's other centrality measures that are measuring closeness or connectedness, which are similar (but not the same).

Google's PageRank came out of this graph research / these network metrics. We could play with that and call it FriendStrength (or something not as stupid)

Haha, the more names and variations the better!

Lack of global ranking means less people using/seeing it as a status symbol.

Agree!

So… influensor score? 😂 🤣 oh no…

It's the proper term (and was in use before influencers were a thing). It's a captured term now, like crypto.

As long as we can turn it off 🤝

Think of it as (part of) a #WebOfTrust score. It can be incredibly useful in the right context.

I like the mechanism of wot but I don’t like the concept of a score. I get that it’s mathematically needed but I don’t want to have any type of score visible next to name or pfp. If it’s something along the lines of a label like “trusted” that’s a bit better. Just the score part feels wrong.

Fair! Like you say, there's still gonna be a score "underneath" that dictates whether the label should be shown or not, and defining any such threshold is always more art than science too, but I get your point.

My hope is that we won't reinvent the wheel all the time. A lot of good research exists in the world of graphs and networks, and these centrality measures are solid. We'll make a lot of mistakes and miss lots of good stuff if we try to come up with our own naive metrics for everything.
