After reading Whitenoise's blurbs, it sounds like a malicious relay could undo all the security.
Messaging is broken.
Signal is centralized.
SimpleX doesn't do groups well.
Session doesn't auto-rotate keys.
XMPP lacks multi-device support.
And Matrix leaks metadata & is slow.
Nostr DMs are currently horrible. But White Noise looks like a promising potential upcoming solution to all of these problems. It uses MLS for the actual encryption with Nostr keys just for identity.
MLS is able to offer easy scaling for groups, that isn't bogged down by being a bunch of one-on-ones in disguise as a group UI, the way signal, session, and simplex are. Check out, https://www.whitenoise.chat/

After listening to their nostr:nprofile1qqs874el2hv8tn5wm3fgahuz99yl624el8r9my22gq39vcas56tmupcprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twwpshy6ewvdhk6qgewaehxw309aek2mnyd96zumn0wdnxcctjv5hxxmmdqyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnswf5k6ctv9ehx2aqzqdljd episode, it seems like that is not the case. All the data is fully encrypted when it hits the relays, nothing they can do to harm the security. That's my take at least. But I'm an idiot, 😂
Okay, that sounds good then.
not sure yet, I would need to read more
