The most important thing that you can do for free speech is push it to its limits as often as possible and if you find someone pushes back… you push back harder

Free speech is the bedrock of human liberty

If you're speaking the truth. Yes 100% agree, if you're spreading hate based on disinformation, disagree, because it leaves people with the idea that hate speech should be censored.

Who is the arbiter of truth

I believe this is a danger game to play. There’s always truth. Lest we just live in a lawless world. If someone murders your family and it’s your word against theirs, even if you have evidence. I believe there’s levels of truth and we don’t need to play games with that. Monsters need to be behind bars, not running free because “what’s truth”

Ok

Not sure why Kayne didn't reply yet but I think he means for anyone talking. Like, you know if you're speaking from hate, so it's up to you not to get that mixed up with a free speech protection strategy

I've never seen you speak from hate so it probably doesn't apply to you

I try not to, actually I’m not sure there is anything I hate… maybe war

Hahahaha

I'm almost done with a video about (mainly) nostr, which YouTube might end up suppressing with an age restriction like "nostr is for 18+ and we do not allow discussion targeted at people below 18"

I've heard it's a lot better for a video to just be age restricted by the creator instead of forced, so I've been trying to figure out if it's spineless to age restrict the video myself. I don't believe in age restriction, and I don't believe suppressing nostr is an appropriate use of it, but does clicking that button really have to mean "I believe in age restricting this video" or can it just mean "I think this is a video YouTube might want me to age restrict" ?

Open to your opinion 🤙

Hmmm I struggle w this part of the debate. I like the idea of verbally saying “this content is defined as being for people 18+” but not taking enforcement actions that increase surveillance… like an honor system style I suppose

whenever anyone at all messages me (as u know) the first question I ask is “are you over 18?” Not because we’re even flirting or even plan to

But because I personally don’t have business DMing anyone that young for anything

I know it’s not the same but when I think of these things I think it’s up to the adults to define the boundaries (because our prefrontal cortex is online) and it’s up to us to individually protect ourselves and it’s up to parents to protect their children etc

Ultimately, the internet itself is a very poor tool to use to protect children

I don't think the video is 18+ at all but I could say "viewer discretion advised" or something because the topics discussed are so heavy.

I have a disclaimer screen in the beginning that basically says "please don't be insulted by this video, my mental health impacts my ability to create a good video"

Maybe I could add a line at the top that says:

"Although intended for all ages, this video may cause stress, anxiety, or other lasting effects for anyone old enough to watch it."

I like the last line :)

Thank you for your advice. I think I will go with this, disclaimer + no restriction
