It’s time to retire the 🤙 and the ❤️

We need to lower the threshold to ⚡️ and 🔄

In a V4V environment, the 🤙 is pure vanity.

If you like something, ⚡️ it. Even if it’s a few sats, take the time to use and support the monetary network that makes this possible.

And if it’s something you think your friends and followers will enjoy, boost it 🔄.

Until there is a good way to show posts of Friends of Friends, the 🔄 button is the most powerful tool to spread good content and create a virtuous cycle.

Pura vida! 🤙 💜

Thats good medicine Doc.

Occasionally I wish there was an edit button here (but not really).

Leaving a comment is way more powerful than a 🤙 as well.

Even if the comment is a 🤙

My man 🤙

Thinking about if clients had 🤙❤️ but once you setup your zaps they are replaced with ⚡️

Individually i would say comment >zap>repost> like

The only time I use a like is if I zapped yea a few times in a convoy and I need to acknowledge your note ₿ack.

I love the zap, repost, and comment combo. I mean who go out and only gets a ₿urger without fries or a drink.

Good example of how to get the most out of NOSTR

I want to like this, but in the spirit of the note, I must abstain.

I agree and usually would like your post to signal my agreement, but rules.

Thank you.

I would not mind it if it was easy, but having to switch apps, wait for wallet to process the url(which fails a lot of the times) adds a lot of friction, that too for a simple “like”, which is more like an “acknowledged” for me atm. I’d be happy to do it if i we can improve on these things. But In the current state it would be really annoying if the devs remove the likes without fixing the ⚡️ first.

“It will come, it will come. In due course, ya.”

I don’t think our wallet integrations are where they need to be yet. Both browser and native apps are prototyping wallet interop and integrations at present.

A zap isn’t the same as a reaction. A reaction could be any content, not just a relative of an upvote.

I’d also be concerned about forcing engagement to require Bitcoin usage. I’m fully supportive, however there should be a choice. Bitcoin adoption is a different journey for everyone.

They are close, Nostr Wallet Connect is impressive from what I’ve seen from Amethyst users (I’m on Damus).

I don’t think getting rid of the 🤙 forces engagement. It just gets rid of a useless vanity metric and pushes users towards engaging in more productive ways (discourse, V4V, or sharing).

Zaps can be faked and entirely vanity too. Its not quite that simple. Pretend I just zapped you 100,000 sats for your post. Then you zap this post 100,000 sats. It looks amazing.. but we’re just throwing the same sats around.

Client side zap validation is expensive and time consuming as currently implemented. Verifying on mobiles isn’t ideal today. Hopefully this can be improved.

I’m supportive of the motivation.. just cautious about excitement driven development rushing what’s already moving fast.

That’s the point: choice. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Nostrgram.co displays posts of friends of friends

Nice, haven’t used Nostrgram in a bit. Will check it out!

After setting up nostr wallet connect with Alby and amethyst I find myself not liking posts as much and zapping instead. It's under 10 sats but it's a lot to me. I'm giving a lot of value for something that I got enjoyment out of.

Likes are a psyop. Zaps keep it real.

Comments, zaps, reposts, and no algo.

so does the following hold true?

1 sat zap > 1 like

Yes

Fapped ⚡️🫡

Comments, zaps and reposts are the signal and amplification needed to give feedback to the person posting, and can help create a virtuous cycle of engaging content without an algorithm.

1 sat replacing a like is fine… but it should be adjusted based on value.

I’d love to see delayed reposts. That would allow me to resurface something interesting a few hours later, which amplifies the signal even more than reposting right away.

I agree with all of what you said ⚡️

Delayed reposts are a really good idea!

Oh yea… I’m all for it. I went on a rant this morning about how it’s time to retire (or at least let me hide) the 🤙

I think I disagree. If you're sitting a group of people, having a conversation, you don't throw a penny at someone who makes a point. You nod your head or make some other gesture that tells that person you're listening and you get what they're saying.

Social media isn't a perfect analogue to this. But a 🤙 , to me, feels more like a head nod or a read receipt. It signals that you read the post and are picking up what that person is putting down.

however, a 🤙 like shouldn't be more than that, because it doesn't boost visibility of the note in some algorithm. Reposting and zapping should definitely be used when someone creates value for you and/or you think the post should be read by more people.

Put simply, I just don't think we should pony up sats to digitally nod our head.
