Not really. Children need time to develop wisdom in order to understand the world and make decisions for themselves. In the meantime they must rely upon their parent's wisdom.

It's a parents job to get them to that point as quickly as possible

"Do as I say not as I do" comes from a place of love and wisdom.

Don't drink until you're old enough.

Don't smoke because I don't want you to become the nicotine addict that I am.

Etc.

That’s a great response and perspective. I’m guilty of being hard on myself as a parent sometimes.

I try to promote independence. I don’t want my girls having to rely on a man (or other woman) to take care of them.
