I have a couple of DIY stands that are made of galvanized chain link fence top rails and loops of steel cable. They're heavy, but cheap and effective. If you drill and lash them in the right spot, they'll even allow you to use an 11' tarp.

That might still be pricey, but it's an efficient way to get started. Having a basic hammock and stand around is always good for maximum lounging capability. The naps are EXTREME.
