It was really fun honestly. 2 LFOs per track really opens up the possibilities, even though there’s only 4 synth tracks. Did a good minimal techno session

awesome. did you start with the drum presets on the a4 i guess?

i'm more in love with the a4 than the ar to be honest...

I prefer the ar so far. But I’ve had them for roughly a month and focused mostly on the ar. Now im trying to dive into the a4 for a month

I had the dt+dn combo in the past so I know the sequencer in and out perfectly. Gotta get use to the synth engines

makes sense! the dt2 and the dn2 make the sequencer feel very cramped by comparison. the 128 steps v 64 makes a huge difference

but maybe you're adept with song mode and pattern linking – i'm not there yet!

I don’t really use song mode. I like to modify stuff on the fly and have a few patterns ready to go.

Less steps than the other 2 boxes but the analog sounds are supreme

agree πŸ’― with that!

I found the dt sounded good (dont get me wrong) but there’s nothing like rich, warm analog sounds. And ar can sample roughly the same as dt

*i found the dn sounded good * not dt

i connect with the dt2 for sure. it's the best sampler i've ever come across. when you want something thats fucking brutal and direct and punchy. it cuts through in ways the analog stuff doesn't.... the digitone is staaaarrrrting to get get used more.

the point is i guess not everything calls for everything. everything has its place.

For sure. You find it better as a sampler than ot ? Really? The new update is that good?

well....

caveat is ive never used the OT or the og DT.

but i absolutely love its simplicity and directness. I think from what i understand the OT is very convoluted. And the 128 step thing.

makes you wonder what their move will be with the AR / A4 / OT. will they get upgraded on the new II platform? I'm sure they will. It makes total sense. They need analog flagships on the new platform.

You mean in small box format? Or in the same format as ar and a4?

Small box I have difficulty to see a flagship in that format. Less immediate. AR is way more immediate than dt imo. Can use both hands at the same time. Plus the performance and scene macros

i mean large format... but then i wonder if the music industry is so fucked they can see they ship way more at the small box price point... who knows. who cares. 🫠

Does dt2 have time stretch?

And do you know the max length for long playable samples?

i don't know the max length... not something ive ever had to test the limits of. it has multiple timestretch machines ...

ONESHOT

WERP

STRETCH

REPITCH

GRID

Oh so they added timestretch to the dt2. This is very interesting!

OT is great but a lot of menu diving. Dt is way more immediate. Very cool

Would be amazing if they added even just one timestretch machine to the ar2. I can dream πŸ˜‚

Well... I arrived at the AR after 1.7 but i think 1.7 was a massive update. and I imagine that's kinda stretching the limits of the platform – pure speculation on my part... I don't think the analog boxes have a concept of 'Machines' in the same way as the Syntakt, Digitone II, or Digitakt II... ?

AR has machines. Lots of them. Some are only on tracks 1-4 but yes

yes! forgot

yeah in my quest to understand why anyone would bother with the OT coming from the DTII I think it begs the question what role the OT plays anymore... I understand the cross-fader and live looping etc. is a big part of the OT but these are small updates on the DTII given the 'machine' modular paradigm of the new Elektron boxes...

I think one major one is the audio connectivity. OT is hard to beat on that one.

Same style of connectivity we have on ar and a4

i hope they never replace the ar and a4 as i think they're perfect in their imperfection too but that doesn't seem rational from their perspective. then again, they abandoned the Machinedrum...

I agree. Form factor, synths, analog, sequencer, audio outputs, performance pads. Hard to beat these premium machines

yeah... i've been contemplating the ergonomics of how i have positioned the small boxes and the larger boxes... i have the small boxes closer to me, but based on what you said about 2 hands etc... im gonna swap em around...

Smaller ones make more sense farther yes.

ooof done! not as easy as it sounds! just dont look behind the beautiful boxes πŸ˜‚

This you? πŸ˜‚

πŸ˜‚ that is my life. i mean. the amount of cables it's insane.

it's a miracle it works at all!

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

πŸ˜‚ yeaaaaaaah right!

πŸ˜‚

I used a kick on track 1, a bass on track 2, some percussions on track 3 and noises on track 4. So synth sounds and drum presets yes
