#asknostr Do relay connections 'go to sleep' or something like that when not being actively used?

I'll often switch to Nostr and do some reading, and want to like, repost, etc. and get failure messages. I'll look at all the relays are disconnected. Eventually, they come back, and I can continue. But, curious what is going on.

My wild guess would be, they only accept a certain number if simultaneous connections.

So maybe they drop inactive ones to make space. I would hope only free relays behave that way.

I'd hope paid relays have set contention ratio at the very least.

I'd be interested in other comments on this.
