The most we can do is to prepare for his entry, to get out of his way, to remove the barriers, for until God himself acts within us there is nothing positive that we can do in this direction. We may, however, be certain that he will act—indeed, that he is *already* acting—though we have difficulty in becoming aware of this action because we are always trying to put imitations and substitutes of our own in its place. We fail to see through the window because we are painting pictures on the glass."
