It was a great source of finding new people to follow. Also, it was my favorite way to stay up to date with what was happening in the nostr and bitcoin worlds. Even if I was away from nostr for the whole day I always made sure to go back and check the Nostr report that I missed. I think I read every single daily report.

💯

Just now able to think about this and reply. I was at the science museum with my kids earlier. 🤓😁

I liked the daily report for those reasons too and that pretty well sums up why we started doing it in the first place. I’m not sure if the declining engagement was due to lack of interest in it or something else. The length of the report was a turn off for many. And clients all render things differently (tagged notes, images, videos, web links, etc), so as more and more clients become popular it became more of a challenge to format it so it worked well across multiple clients. Our original goal was to make it so people could browse the report and fully stay within their client as much as possible, like flipping through a newspaper, but that experience became nearly impossible to create consistently. If engagement had been high, then working through those issues would have made more sense. But it had gotten to where on a good day we were getting maybe 2-3 reposts besides our own team reposting it, and like 50¢ - $1 worth of sats in zaps, at best. Juxtapose that with the fact that we were spending a collective 5-10 man hours per day, every day, curating content and putting the report together. After a year I would have expected if it was popular the trend would be more engagement, not less.

But we haven’t abandoned the goal of helping keep up to date with what’s happening on Nostr. We just think there are better ways for us to do so that work better within Nostr clients’ UI/UX, and that will work better for us time wise as we all have jobs and family responsibilities outside of this that have to remain a priority as well.

the length of the report was perfect imo and it's super easy to switch to a different client that renders the report in a better way. that's the whole beauty of nostr.

i wish someone like nostr:nprofile1qyg8wumn8ghj7mn09eehgu3wvdez7qgewaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8xmn0wf6zuum0vd5kzmp0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qpq0pensatlcfwktnvjjw2dtem38n6rvw8g6fv73h84cuacxn4c28eqk0cm3y could fund the report. enough so that the contributors could get a decent wage cause unfortunately, many people ignore the first value in #value4value 😂.

Thank you Sam for all your kind words and support. I agree, it’s easy to switch clients, and some definitely did a better job than others. I like to think that we pushed the envelope of early development by creating difficult to render notes that challenged developers and their design choices.

This was eye-opening experience for many reasons, especially seeing that #v4v is probably not a reality at this point. None of us wanted to pursue traditional models such as advertising and it became hard to justify the amount of time we were putting into the project compared to the engagement that we got back. nostr:npub1h882a66p0zj5n69s2u8nfzev4f97lzfnlcej84z78p6uqxge5tpqlupz20 had a great take on #V4V recently discussing multiple income streams for content creators. I agree with his sentiment that while value-for-value is ideal, and made possible with #bitcoin, it probably doesn’t work as the sole source of revenue for content creators (yet!).

And while grants are nice, they don’t make for a sustainable project like we want to pursue. I actually did apply for an open stats Grant, but since we are not an open-sourced project, I don’t think we qualify. I even went so far as to discuss, turning the nostr:npub19mduaf5569jx9xz555jcx3v06mvktvtpu0zgk47n4lcpjsz43zzqhj6vzk into a NostRocket project with nostr:npub1arkn0xxxll4llgy9qxkrncn3vc4l69s0dz8ef3zadykcwe7ax3dqrrh43w to partially open-source it. I still think that would be cool, but certainly something we would have to think long and hard about.

Like corn said, we are still committed to our mission of being the human algorithm keeping everyone up-to-date on Nostr, but we need to find a path of growth that is sustainable and worth the significant amount of time put into it. I’m not quite sure what that means just yet, but we are working on figuring it out. If you have any ideas, or want to give a hand we’d love to chat 🫂

I’ve been missing The Report as well. I used it for putting together the Bitcoin And . . . Podcast all the time (and promoted it on the show).

I definitely feel you about the support and rendering issues though and I understand why y’all put it on hold.

I still go to nostr:npub19mduaf5569jx9xz555jcx3v06mvktvtpu0zgk47n4lcpjsz43zzqhj6vzk daily though.
