This is a bacterial-feeding nematode from one of my compost piles. There were a dozen of them in one drop of liquid from the sample.

These nematodes eat bacteria (all the little dots around them) and excrete the excess nitrogen and other nutrients that the bacteria themselves have eaten. Those nutrients are then available to plant roots in the soil. This is the #soilfoodweb in action. #permies

What kind of scope do you use? I’ve been curious about this sort of thing.

It's a shadowing microscope with 40-100-400X total magnification. There are more details in another reply, I'll try to share the link: nostr:nevent1qqsg0h0x76hvq4lmsxrvc5q702laksseqh40patvvtj6dy27jpvq0jcpvemhxue69uhkv6tvw3jhytnwdaehgu3wwa5kuef0dec82c33d33k27nwwgekvdpjxemkxvn8xd3hyerpd4n8jwtrwpjkcuekwuukwvecwa48gmfkw4n8ydekvaarxanxdfekkurhxsmrg0mzwfhkzerrv9ehg0t5wf6k2qg5waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t0qyg8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnhd9hx2qgkwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucnpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqvryxyz
