There is plausible deniability if you have to pull together chunks of data that were crammed into odd places (like public keys, or what not). But encouraging contiguous data storage in OP_RETURN makes this attack vector much easier for law enforcement to prosecute. It’s rolling out a welcome mat to garbage and worse.
The exact same plausible deniability exists when it is 100% forensically provable that users who run a node are simply storing the data of an open public ledger and that any OP_RETURN data in question originated elsewhere.
How do you know that? This is just conjecture. Also, we even have a case study with BSV. They opened up OP_RETURN in the same way and shit went downhill fast. Seems like we should be very cautious here, and I don’t see that from Core.

I’ve always thought the CSAM thing was a bad faith argument. Frankly, I think both core and knots have lost the plot. There’s also no legitimate reason to update to core v30, imo.
