I would say that inmates should not be the standard for the basic dignities that we should provide people. I don’t support criminality, but inmates are the only population where it is legal to violate human rights (eg voter disenfranchisement, forced labor). I agree that everyone should have access to food, shelter, and education. The money exists. We just have to care enough to do it.
