1700 local time, start of day 3 and we’ve done 380nm since departing Maupiti. Had a spectacular day with smooth seas a gentle 2m ground swell rolling through from the SW but light 8-12kts of wind just after of the beam.

Boats going great and we expect this weather to continue for the next two days. Made some water this morning topping up the tanks and drinking water.

Come Wednesday we’ll start to get some more harsh conditions with expected 25-35kts of breeze for the last two days run into Tonga.

JOOI why not stop in Aitutaki / Raro? And how do you make drinking water? Do you have some sort of mini desalination plant on board?

Good questions! We chose not to stop off in Aitutaki due to the narrow channel entrance which is hard for us to navigate as we’re a trimaran with a 12m beam. Rarotonga because it’s south of the rhumb line and the angles don’t work that great. A lot of where we go is very dependent upon ease and safety. As Bruce Lee said be like water choose the path of least resistance 😁

And yep we have a desalinator/water-maker that runs off the onboard 24 volt system. This systems mainly charged by solar and can produce around 70 litres of fresh water an hour.
