Some advice from someone that’s married to a European and been flying in and out of there since the late 90’s. Fly in and out of Italy they don’t give a shit. AWS - apparent wind speed
TWD - true wind direction
AWA - apparent wind angle
BSPD - boat speed through the water
TWD - true wind direction
TWS - true wind speed
TWA - true wind angle
It’s important to understand the difference between true/apparent as it’s the difference between the true and the apparent wind. The apparent is what you feel once you start moving the true is what the wind would be if you weren’t moving and stood still.
The faster the boat is the larger the difference between the true and apparent wind angles and speeds will be.
We live onboard and sail a performance trimaran, which is why you see big differences and why our SOG - speed over ground is higher than you’ll likely see on other vessels.
