I've had friends from LA (where it never gets dark) come to my home town where individual stars can be seen in the milkyway. Btw, in grade school, I read that was impossible 🤣

I never realized how comfortable I was in the dark until I saw how they couldn't handle it. Then, they'd see the stars, and all panic would stop. They would become quite and manage to utter, "I never knew there were so many stars."

Until then, it never occurred to me before how much celestial light people miss while living in urban areas.

Being continually bathed in light is a pretty modern thing. Growing up I could flip two switches and be in a dark sky preserve. I can see it being unnerving if you weren't used to it.

I think it disconnects people from the reality we live in 💯
