It’s interesting stuff for sure. My understanding of it was using DBD for adjusting flight control surfaces (i.e. replacing heavy flaps and rudders) as covered by this thesis for example:

I saw one of those tic tac things in Osan AirForce base South Korea. It moved like it was in a fast forwarded movie. There were about 5 people around me that saw it. They guy next to me grabbed his face with two hands looked at me and said "Oh my god, did you see that?" I responded by saying "Yeah Yeah I saw it, Who cares!" Now that its been reported a bit more I find my care levels increasing.....
