Bitcoin gives individuals control over their own money without needing to trust intermediaries like banks. As with all freedoms, 𝘉𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘢𝘵, but it opens the door to much greater prosperity.

Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, which is secured by more work than anything else. The blockchain is shared redundantly on thousands of computers around the world, and updated — 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 — approximately every 10 minutes.

Transactions on the Bitcoin network are 𝘱𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘴, providing a level of privacy that traditional banking systems often lack. While all on-chain transactions are verifiable and visible to everyone, the identities and purposes for those transactions are not.
