What’s a good (maybe refurbished) Android phone to try out graphene and nostr from the other side?
Discussion
I think the pixel 4a's are still supported (not 100% sure on that) but 6's are also getting fairly cheap.
The Samsung A05 is pretty cheap if available in your geography
Does this work well with Graphene or it’s better with CalyxOS ?
Graphene only supports pixel devices afaik
Good to know! Thanks
Consider getting not the lowest supported device, as google and graphene eventually stop support of older devices. This means you are stuck with outdated hardware.
Check for a pixel 7 refurb on amazon, your local phone stores/e-commerce shops
GrapheneOS runs only on google pixels. So you could get a used pixe,l 6a or 7a are quite good. Don't know if the series 5 still gets security updates.
The 6 will be the oldest that still has a nice screen and gets all the GOS features.
And it’s pretty cheap on Amazon. Thanks!
6a ftw
Everyone seems to be saying 6/6a. Do you know if it’s much better than the 6 or the 6 pro even?
I have a 6pro, wife has 6. Both have held up under Graphene. Good phones.
Rocking 4a & 6a pixels
Do you know if 6a is more recent than 6 pro or is it roughly the same?
6a more recent and has the same spec as the 6, but the 6a is made of plastic and doesn't have a 120hz screen. I had a 6a to dip me toe in. It is a piece of plastic though so feels cheap 🤣 get the standard 6 the price difference will be minimal if any.
GrapheneOS only works on Pixel phones. I have a Pixel6 and it’s a nice phone.
Pixel 6 seems to be the consensus. Thanks!
pixel 8a will give you 6 years support, but 7a is also respectable, just less value for money
Pixel 6a GrapheneOS user here.
No need to upgrade yet.
I saw some even cheaper than the 6 on Amazon
I would recommend the newest Pixel for your price range. It will get updates for longer. The a model is the cheapest option, and they are usually good enough.
That’s what I learned about the a model while looking into this. Thanks for the info!
Any phone on the Graphene list will work--andi it'll continue to work, even after support from Google and Graphene end...so for "trying it out" you can simply purchase the oldest supported model.
HOWEVER--I agree with buying the best (latest) you can afford. While the 6 and 7 series are good price points, the 8 has imroved security hardware...so that may be what I'd recommend.
AND -- having said all that -- remember Black Friday is not far away, and Google typically has a great deal on an older pixel at that time.
