Nah, tipping people like the garbage man is actually something I think is deserved and it’s an ongoing relationship whether some are actually aware or not.
Tipping culture has gone too far, but it’s in tipping people where no sort of service has even been provided. Tipping at a cash register for someone who punched in your order is ridiculous, imo.
To bridge the gap I always simply round up. It’s a tip, but I’m not going out of my way. It’s also a decent brain exercise to constantly do some simple math, lol.
I feel differently about the people who come to my house and provide a service on an ongoing basis. Mailman, garbage, recycling, even delivery sometimes (though less these days), I always try to get to know them and catch them for holiday presents.
