My new router keeps disconnecting me from the internet and wifi drops periodically 😢

I don’t have the time to mess with it too much. It seems to be a consistent problem

With tri-band routers.

Anyone else have any issues with a wifi7 router? #asknostr

The old 6e works fine. Same brand. Same settings minus the 6ghz band

Are you sure it isn't the device?

Router drops connection from modem so… it has to be some settings or something. Has happened with 2 wifi7 routers now (different brands). The first time I returned the device thinking it was faulty but now I’m thinking it’s some settings. I tried both wired and wireless.

Wifi mouse and keyboard? It might interfere.

I'll be that guy : have you thought of running a cable? Less radiation, no interference, harder to hack.

Tried wired. It’s not a wifi only issue - seems to be broader router settings

I got the same thing with Wifi5. I solved it by disconnecting all ethernet devices and connecting them wirelessly.

Hmm. I’ve tried that but didn’t see any difference. Internet still drops even if connected through wifi (from modem to router though no indication of issues on modem)

There are so many potential causes of this behaviour.

My brother needed to manually change the MHz it operated on to resolve his issues.

If wifi6 works fine for you, can you force that?

Tried disabling it entirely (6ghz) but issues persist even with 2.4 and 5, but even wired connection drops

Thats not good. I doubt you are even close to connecting the maximum devices it can handle. Modern routers are ridiculous for that.

I hope its not bad firmware.

Nope not that many devices. Latest firmware too. But I have a hard time believing 2 separate devices from 2 different brands are both faulty 🤔

AI tells me to :

- Disable MLO (Multi-Link Operation)

- Separate the tri-band SSIDs instead of using the same network name for all bands. Assign each band (2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz) a different name to improve compatibility.

- Turn off Wi-Fi 7 mode or downgrade to Wi-Fi 6 compatibility for devices struggling to connect.

I hope it helps!

Yeah did all this but still disconnection issues

Did you try using the second router to see if problem persists?😆

Maybe try the other one 😏

🤣 I don’t think it’s a router defect - more likely settings. I’ll try a complete reset to see what happens, disable wifi and see if lan works and go from there.

Try running both simultaneously

Sure, let me just call the cable company and ask them to run another fiber connection to my place 🤣

I have same issue with my modem. Just random disconnects of everything very frequently. Didn't manage to find solution so far, switching to mobile internet in the meantime 😅😭

What router model?

Got docsis 3.1 from my ips

Jameson Lopp had a problem with his wifi and tv. He wrote about it, roughly a week ago.
