Building a deck for a friend of a friend. They want it permitted so just had a meeting with a permit agent in their county.

$1350 dollars for permitting of a 330 square foot ground-level deck, need to submit construction plans ($500), hours of work to fill out all of their forms and meet their requirements, need 3 onsite inspections along the way AND it’s an 8 week lead time for permit approval.

Obscenely retarded and infuriating.

The permit department employees relish their role as gatekeepers too. They looked over every pedantic category on the clients property / project trying to find reasons why I couldn’t build the deck or reasons why the property owners would have to pay more to the county and/or county affiliated rackets.

Sincerely a wretched system. My radicalization strengthens.

I did a paver patio instead of a deck for this exact reason.
