You don't need to use WoS, but all NIP-57 enabled wallets at this time are all custodial. If you don't care about that, run your own node and use Zeus. 🤙

Perhaps a dumb question, but safe to assume that when WoS service is broken that LN URL receives and sends wont go through?
Sometimes these things can be nuanced where it’s received on the backend, but the client app is not representing that truth due to service degradation… 🤷♂️
