It is fantastic to watch the swales work. Mine are more like speed bumps that catch mostly nutrients. They fill up pretty quickly in heavy rain.

Are there any issues with changing spil hydrology? I've heard of land slips caused by swales.
It's generally encouraged to immediately plant shrubs and trees to avoid that.
Also, it's not wise to dig swales on steeper slopes.
The swales I dug are only 12-18in deep. Very shallow. No concerns of slipping for me.

Furthermore I think you should count with directionality of your water. This includes the vertical direction of absorbtion rate.
