Explain the color “red” to someone who’s never seen it and never will.
I’ll wait.
Red is the feeling of anger.
Red is something that is very hot burns you.
Feeling of anger makes sense to me.
Things that burn me are just yellow.
(I’m actually colorblind btw. 😁)
Red- usually the color of anger, sexual excitement, physical strength or aggression
Hot foods are often red, I associate it with hot peppers.
If you have ever had a sun burn, your skin turns a red color. Or, if you have felt embarrassed and blushed, that heat on your cheeks looks red.
Blood is red.
I would say pain would have a red quality if any.
This is very good. Sometimes feels like I am missing a part of the world. Like fall colors. Everything just looks dead to me and everyone around me is captivated.
As a fellow color blind sighted whatever who "doesn't see right"...
Mushrooms help open my receptors to colors other than browns and grays.
Likely never to the degree "normal" color sighted people see.
Imagine shit that can see on light spectrums humans cant..
Who the hell are we to say what "red" is?
Red is full, we “redline” engines pushing them to extremes.
A Red Alert is Imminate danger.
A single trees last ₿reath as its leaves lose chlorophyl reading for winter.
The deep ooze of your own ₿lood as it supra oxidizes after a deep cut.
Red is on the edge of imminent ₿lack: death/destruction but its not a sure thing.
These are good answers. Even if I never see it, I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts on it.
It’s a curious thing, trying to describe something that someone cannot perceive.
When you asked my mind went to “The Giver” by Lois Lowry they described a colour when no one had ever see one.
“We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine, and done away with difference. We gained control of many things. But we had to let others go.”
Red is the feeling of lust or deep throbbing pain.
I think I may have seen red once when I had a concussion, but I can’t prove it.
Why do you think lust gets associated with red? I have evolutionary biology reasons in mind personally.
Close your eyes. Press your finger into your eyelids lightly and apply gently pressure to your eyes. You should see red.
Does this work with colorblind people? We need a doctor. #[4]
Also if you shine a flashlight directly into your eye for 10 seconds, then close your eyes, there would be a red after image.
If you see a color that's new to you, that's red.
👀. I suppose it would depend on the color blindness but if protanopia with them red cones shot may yield nada.
For all smart 👁️ 👁️ questions I consult #[5].
You’re exactly right! 🎯 I guess you could try to describe red to that person but wondering if the millions/billions of touch points over the years associating red with certain things wouldn’t really make sense to someone with protanopia.
Just needed them red cones…😓
It’s an interesting problem.
It’s also amazing how much humans can overcome. Some of my work involves color coded wiring. It was years before I was tested for color blindness, and when I was diagnosed we had to figure out how it was I was able to do wiring so well.
I had to explain to my then employer, that red dye on wires was shinier than brown, and that’s what I thought red looked like on wires.
I also understand there is some connection between dyslexia and color blindness.
100%. Same with stop lights - even if you can’t see certain colors well people can still tell that there is a difference, at least in hue (or in your case shininess!). As long as they associate correctly, like the red one, however perceived, as being stop, they can adapt.
I always thought it was cool that when we test color vision the first page (the 12 usually) is actually a decoy to be able to see if people are trying to fake the tester for some secondary gain. Even a color bind person (no matter which type) will be able to tell you the number based on contrast, not color. Fun fact.
Would these work? I know they only work for certain types of colorblindness
Red is the feeling you get when you’re in a hurry at the grocery store, only one checkout is open, and the person ahead of you pays cash by slowly counting out spare change.
Dark red is when they pay by writing a check.
That last line. 🤣
I may not know what red looks like, but I know how it feels now.
🤣🫂🫡
Hilarious! People still write chqs? 🤣🤣
Only horrible people who are already in hell and trying to put the rest of us there with them do 😂🤣
I mean… debit cards are fucking free for Christs sake.
You have to consciously go and buy a fucking check book. It’s intentional. You put thought into this shit.
This is when the fiat system really pisses you off. Perfect example.
Remember when you've cut your finger really bad? Remember all the pain? And the blood? Well...the knife handle was RED!
