For 5+ years, the HOA in the hood I live in, has struggled with a "community Facebook page" started by myself and a neighbor over 10 years ago.

At first, EVERYONE in the hood used the page. People introduced themselves, rented homes, advertised their home listings, posted picture of the hood and animals and shared road conditions and general pointers about living in the mountain community we all love.

HOA board members want the page removed so badly. I've received public pleadings, private pleadings, in person pressures, to close the group page. A board member started another group page a few years ago, because they want to control the dialog and posts.

THIS is why I want "communities" on nostr. While I don't want "gatekeeping" to keep others out, I want a "protocol" where users can interact freely, perhaps with some verification. I don't know how it'd work, but what I do know is Facebook and other platforms are broken, but I'm confident nostr/bitcoin can help fix it.

Anyway, HOA's are a scourge on the modern world.

Lol.

What Ahole has to explain what shutter means?

They can eat a 🌽

Totally agree here! This is a great use case for normal people.

Why did you decide to move into a hoa?

Yes they are shit.

The only thing you can do is move out.

You can’t change them and they will find a way to control everything that has to do with that hoa.

Hoa’s are just another method to take away freedoms.

Well, it's not really an HOA, as it was created before HOA's existed. Technically, it's the largest in the state, at over 805+ lots. The HOA is technically the road maintenance group/fund. We pay $35/month, so extremely limited. They have very little control, as there are 7 (known of) "cc&r's" that are attached to each lot. Problem is, as you see, there are 7 different rules and restrictions.

Part of this drama is the HOA trying to legislate a new, all-inclusive document. Problem is, they need 70%+ to change the documents. No vote is considered a "NO", so community reach is a constant uphill battle....

Keep in mind, the HOA as it currently sits, can't do a whole lot, legally, except they're pretty efficient at wasting community money (typical fiat).

Ahhhhh ok so it’s really limited in scope that’s good.

Not so bad really then.

It's only bad when the few community members rally together, and begin thinking they're the majority, and start trying to control everything.

That being said, I bought a middle of the road priced "cabin" 10 years ago, for $240k and now they are selling for $800k. I've considered leaving, but it's my dream home, and I'd rather keep it in my family and rent it out, if needed in the future.

Rentals are one thing they are dying to control, but without rule changing and community votes, that's a dead initiative.

Well I hope that everything works in your favor. It’s good you found the home you were looking for and that it’s gained in value.

Yea HOAs suck!!!

...the life out of people...

To stir the pot, I added "The Official" to the group name this morning, lol

I've been in many how battles as a consultant here in Mexico. It always amazes how foreigners will come and create an agreement and then a few must try and run it like they are the majority.

Then the government steps in and lawsuits begin to fly. I don't care if there are 7 or 100 rules ot appears a few always want to screw it up for the majority.

The majority also wants to be lazy ( apathetic) and do little to protect their rights or ethos until it's a disaster.

My concern is that as I build out Rancho San Satoshi and open it to others we will have to create some form of governance and I believe as humans we have not yet learned how to share and live together.

One of the main topics for Sovereign Citadel Sunday program is work on this issue.

Yes, the board (that has now completely switched people) retained an attorney 5-6 years ago. He even attends the monthly meetings. He was counseling during the cc&r restructuring attempt. He's still here, cuz the current board thinks he's necessary. So toxic.

Ugh.
