If we accept that B0 (the base year) is 1900 with a spawning stock biomass (SSB) of 300,000 tonnes, the current SSB of 170,000 tonnes puts the stock status at 57%.
The target for most fisheries is 40%.
The big question is what year to call B0 as Hauraki Gulf snapper were supporting humans for many centuries before 1900.
