There is going to be a time where we tell our kids that when we were young we didnt need an ID to use the Internet, and I find that very scary

FWIW, I'd rather tell my kids - "we didn't need an ID, and when we heard they were enforcing it, we fought against it".

We may lose, but we gotta fight.
