Confession: I’m generally terrified of flying.

The thought of getting into a giant tube made out of thousands of parts, any of which could fail while 30,000 feet above ground, with very low chances of survival should something go wrong, is a terrifying one.

I think statistically you are more likely to die in a car accident but somehow being in the air and having no control over the situation feels way worse.

I fly anyway but count my blessings every time the plane lands safely.

飛行機は大丈夫ですが、僕は少し高所恐怖症です。

I can understand your thoughts 🛬

I don't fear flying but I say a prayer to the gods of aerodynamics and engineering during take off and landing. y'know, just in case.

This is why they serve alcohol on planes. I too drink a lot on planes

😂

Used to be the same way. Had to train myself to drop the fear of dying & release myself from trying to be in control of things that are completely out of my control. Burying myself in music was therapeutic along the way.

For the most part aircraft equipment is very redundant. Even the most modern jumbojets can stay in the air with one engine, and hell they can land themselves.

Yeah but they have maintenance schedules and sometimes people forget to replace parts or wait a bit longer to do something and all of a sudden the elevator gets locked in a certain position and you’re screwed. Have to trust whichever underpaid (probably a contractor) person to do the right thing every time 😱

I experienced an extreme turbulence. At that moment, the people around me were full of desperate screams. The feeling of being slaughtered was really bad.

Wow

I think being trapped in that tin can & under the control of flight staff is the bit I hate the most.

Going through the airports is next in line.

This was me 10 years ago. The lack of control caused my brain to run wild with all sorts of horrible scenarios. I think it was an early manifestation of “don’t trust verify”. I’ve come to think of it as a blessing and a curse.

ser, my dad fears the same.

for domestic travels- he prefer trains only even tho it takes 10-12hrs+

I still fly and I’m not super anxious to get on or anything but that thought is always there.

dad won’t even apply for passport ‘cause he ain’t gonna travel 😅

Lets not even take into account alot of the airlines went full authoritarian and forced jabs on pilots. They could have an event at any time while flying.

Isn’t that why there are 2 at all times?

True but still what if both went at the same time

The odds of that happening would be staggering id think.

I wouldn’t worry about it.

Exactly, wait a few years till we find out more about shedding from vaxed people to non vaxed people.

Same here, I need to do some heavy drinking before I board a flight

I know you know, but just to add on to what others said, your chance of survival in an airliner if something “goes wrong” is actually very close to 100%. More times than not you won’t actually even know something went wrong.

Commercial air travel is extremely safe. General aviation on the other hand….we accept a lot more risk :)

Your post is getting a lot of views.

I had a time in my life where I felt like this, but then I realized that the airplane is a magical place free from responsibility. Now I lean into the loss of control and enjoy my few hours of uninterrupted solitude. If I die, I die. It’s not in my hands.

And at the very least it will be nearly instant upon impact, which is not the worst thing when you consider alternatives.

Agree. Embrace being held in the hands of God and other people.

I understand where you’re coming from. I’m also afraid to fly but I realized that I have places to go so I’ll have a drink and a gummy before my flight 😮‍💨🤙🏾

If I got on the plane and stationed on the chair, my mind seemed to imagine the most horrific disasters that could happen and when I landed, forget everything that was depicting my mind in flight
