I remember when I thought Cashu was a great idea and then I got rugged from double spends. And remembered how fractional reserves work and that I’m just handing free bitcoin over to the mint operators. #fridaythoughts

custodians always have trade-offs.
True. But i personally can’t get past the glaring risks of Cashu tokens. I think the education is sorely lacking. It’s not just about custodians.
i believe part of the beneifit of using cashu in this regard would be spreading your sats among different mints so you don't have to trust 1 mint with all of your nuts. you could put 1000 nuts in mint 1, 1000 nuts in mint 2, and 1000 nutes in mint 3 and have a total of 3000 nuts in your wallet. you can't do that with a Lightning wallet. you'd give 3000 sats to one single custodian.
This is certainly a better take than anyone as offered me! I just get told to shut the F up and I’m wrong.
And with multi-part payment this can allow for spreading risk and still paying larger payments.
how did this happen? was this addressed? I never heard of a rug due to a double-spend.
This sucks, I'm sorry to hear that.
which mint? It would be great to understand the failure mechanism. Bad mint or something else.
I still think cashu has a lot of promise, but there are tradeoffs. Love the idea of multinut.
Hope your weekend goes well.
I don’t recall which mint but it was a “popular” or well recommended one at least. Which perhaps could be part of the problem? Was it gamed to be a better recommend one? I don’t know. But I went to mint coins on a few occasions and it said the funds didn’t exist on the mint any longer. 🤷‍♂️ that’s when I decided i was done playing with it.
