Why biometric?? I mean there are cameras everywhere and using code would be recorded in multiple angles and they don’t even have to ask you to unlock once the phone is confiscated.
Biometric data isn't legally protected in many countries, and as such, you can be compelled by force to unlock your device.
What I am saying is that with pin they don’t even need to ask you what the pin is if they confiscate your phone. They probably have captured you entering it in once in many of their cameras at the airport. With biometrics you can at least physically resist.
👀 I’d “subscribe” to this if I could
Not an expert but I’d figure you’d want to avoid taking any meaningful data you want to hide without on a device. Maybe access it securely remotely? Could be wrong.
I travle a lot, been to over 60 countries.
Do not take the laptop or phone with you.
You can buy a used laptop for $100 to $200 in any country today at a local pawn show.
Reimage it with unix
Buy a burner phone
Find a local vender that will sell you a phone chip without an ID.
Stay off social media fakebook, IG, tick tock ..
Have fun
Good advice but doesn’t apply in this instance. Not a personal trip so laptop and phone are not negotiable.
Also nostr is the only social media I use.
yes. nostr:npub18dlusgmprudw46nracaldxe9hz4pdmrws8g6lsusy6qglcv5x48s0lh8x3 crashing right now. will reply in the morning.
I saw a sign recently on a layover in DFW that stated that ICE was taking facial recognition photos from a hidden camera on the jetway and one had to opt out by contacting them. Do you opt out or get on a list? Seriously, IDK.
Wear a mask on the plane and in the airport
Update:
- not taking a laptop
- turn off biometrics on personal phone and only code unlock while out of country. Turned off in the airport.
- Created a media only device. Factory reset an old phone. Wi-fi only, Burner account. Everything deleted except media, podcasts mainly.
