How prepared and robust is the Nostr protocol against state-level attacks? I see a lot of people claiming that governments can’t do anything to stop it, which makes me skeptical. Right now we’re flying under the radar because the network is still small, but at some point it’ll start drawing serious attention — and then the attacks will come.

Maybe they will remove filters to stop attack vector

Yeah, seems to work for Bitcoin 🫠

Nostr is susceptible to KYC for internet access.

So is bitcoin.

When the government forces mandatory KYC per each online session, then what?

Tor

And what about ones who don't have tor installed?

(A majority of people)

Their lack of curiosity will force them to do KYC. It's that simple. You can't force anyone to use one or another. It's each individual choice.

The the internet will be limited to a select few and dead internet theory is indeed something to worry about?

Then Tor will finally flourished 🌱

You really think tor ain't 50% FBI?

🤣

Do I need to lik to news stories?

I never said it isn't 🤷 yet still works. Curious plebs will always find a way to overcome any obstacles throwing at them no matter what and also the 7 eyed agencies won't do a shit about normal stuff on the tor like personal blogs and other normies stuff. They are hunting mostly CSAM freaks and they SHOULD. But they also don't like the underground markets and as I said. If they would be so successful, black markets would not be operating in such quantities as they are. And of course most of them might be operated by 7 eyed agencies like most CSAM sites are.

Nostr protocol itself can not be stopped. They can ddos relays and shut down servers relays are hosted on but Nostr itself can not be stopped. Nostr can be used with tor. Govs are fighting tor censorship relentlessly but they will not ever shut it down completely just like Nostr and Bitcoin.

It almost fully depends on the internet. Which could be shut down at any point either by your gov.

Technically you could use it over metastatic or something similar but you'll only get a few notes from your city.

If that happens, everyone will be on a Bluetooth mesh 🤣

Why, because everyone have at least one smartphone with Bluetooth but not everyone has a meshtastic device.

Not necessarily true, with the 7-hop maximum built into BitChat, you can only get at most about a mile before you can't hop any farther.

meshtastic may be less common but you can go much much farther distance with it

Oh I didn't know that. That's a bummer 😕

Easy to figure out, just take maximum Bluetooth range and multiply it by 7 hops. And you'd get the maximum possible distance. And mind you, that's if the devices can just barely hear each other and are placed perfectly. You're very likely going to get less than that because the devices are likely not going to be placed perfectly and will not only just be able to hear each other.

It's been defeated by state-level attacks for a long time.
