us poors should get to tell you we like your stuff, too

Everything should be free! Back to the ad-supported censorship-laden content platforms we go! Fuck freedom and fuck the artists trying to not be taken advantage of by those platforms, because you deserve free content, am I right?

Don't post content online for free if you expect payment from everyone who views it.

I don't buy everything offered at the grocery store. Products have to compete and win my purchase. If you don't like this model of competition then set up a paywall for your content.

I like your stuff, btw. Hope you don't mind me telling you that from time to time.

Haha thanks, and my comments are not particularly directed at you or any singular person as much as they are directed at the issue, despite me making them in a reply to you 😂🫂 I’m not really thinking about my posts as much when I’m ranting about all this since I’m just making memes. Cool if someone zaps them, but they’re meant for fun, sometimes to make a point.

As for the topic at hand, the difference between products in a store and digital content is that products are physical and limited in supply, and content is infinitely reproducible once created. It’s a challenge for artists for sure. Nothing that I’m going to fix, but if I can be a squeaky wheel and draw attention to the issue then I’ll do that because I care about the issue. Paywalls are meh, and most people are okay with watching a few ads (paying with their attention) to avoid paying for content with money. Nostr, Bitcoin, and value-4-value are up against a lot of momentum in our culture. There are pros and cons, and artists don’t have to rely solely on one monetization model. They can use v4v, paywalls, etc, where each approach makes sense. My point is simply that content doesn’t create itself, whether it’s music, books, movies, etc. We can be stubborn and wait for someone to force us to pay for them with a paywall, or we can show them appreciation voluntarily when they don’t make us jump through those hoops.

whats the sovereign option for noncustodial zapping?

Run your own node. The next easiest option is to use Zeus. Just understand their fee structure and the risk of losing funds to channel closures before you go that route though.

And how many hours/days of administration is required so I can send a few sats over nostr?

If you use zeus, none. If you run your own node it’s another story

Its absurd advice.

I'll give Zeus one more try. IME it wasn't very reliable.

If you’re only doing this to be able to send/receive a few sats then it’s less risky to just use a custodial service. And it will save you loads of time and stress.

Definitely. Zeus is an advanced wallet

And unreasonably expensive if you’re only talking about using it for a few sats here and there.

I compare it to running a node. Much less expensive. But yeah I get what you’re saying

basically

there are no noncustodial options unless you have excesses of time and money.

got it.

Correct. If you need an Alby invite code I still have a few. Send me an email address if you want one.

I'm a Bitcoiner

so I don't trade custody for convenience

No you’re a zealot who doesn’t have common sense.

And who also doesn’t have zaps 😂🤷‍♂️

Our default account set up is self-custodial now. Give it a try!

Is there a way to remove the email for those who had it previously, since the default account changed?

Self custodial in a Phoenix wallet type way?

So Alby is just the LSP then and I trust you with my privacy?

I would try that for sure.

More in a Voltage type way, but easier and targeted to regular user.

Alby Hub is this new open-source wallet app with a lightning node wrapped: https://github.com/getAlby/hub

You can host it yourself - my current setup is built on my Windows (try zapping me, though i must stay online). Or you can pay Alby to host it for you, while the app is encrypted and only you get to know the keys.

And there is choice of LSPs, you can open channel with custom peers, Olympus, Voltage, Megalith, whoever. Doesn't have to be Alby

Ok so suppose I spin one up on a VPS somewhere.

I still have to manage liquidity no doubt?

Are there integrated tools to help with that?

Feel free to try it already!

If you dig nicely, you'll find it in your Account, if not... come to our onboarding sessions!

https://cal.com/getalby/alby-hub-group-onboarding

who said I had an account?

and what would I find exactly?

afaict I would install Hub on a vps, correct?

blixt wallet, open channel to blixt node, balance the channel, use lightning box in bkixt wallet advanced feature is another choice 🤙 ive heard if you have it running on a tablet youll almost eliminate the issue of the apps persistent mode disconnecting.

The name is confusing (onlyzaps). It creates this fake us vs them. Can’t/don’t want to zap, just leave a comment 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yea I don’t like the “Onlyzaps” label. But I’ve encountered some people that intentionally DON’T use zaps at all and there’s always an air of snobbiness to them about it.

From people who don’t like Bitcoin you mean?

No. There are active nostr users who are bitcoiners who intentionally don’t use zaps. Fucking morons.

Ah…Just to make a point? Like they receive but don’t send or nothing setup at all?

I’ve seen both.

Hmmmmm

Said no one ever. Nice bait
