Is this "not cooperative" true? I think it is cooperative in the sense of data sharing, inclusion of new transactions, etc. and all compete on mining blocks, just untrusted, i.e. locally verified, ensured.

Hmm.. but that doesn't cover it, right? It's not only 'coordination'. It is also a deliberate willingness to adopt transactions for the ("minor", temporary) mining benefit. Coordination would not really imply inclusion of concrete data/results.
