Many of us here are older now. What is everyone's thoughts on work/life balance and opinion on risk/reward of more work for sligjtly better pay in the fiat mines?

For context, I am debating whether or not to pursue further a new role where the workload would be like 10x or more and without knowing the potential salary offering (it could be not much more than I am making now if offered a junior role). But, the role on my resume would be great for future employment. I'm just at a crossroads where I don't know if I have the energy required to fill the knowledge gaps quick enough for the upskilling required.

It just sucks because I was handpicked by the CEO for this internship and now I am thinking I may have bitten off more than I can chew as it is an intense amount of work, with a lot of areas in the role that I am unfamiliar with. A very humbling experience. So, I would likely need off-hours to study shit if I really wanted to not look inept. #AskNostr

Mining #Fiat to buy #Bitcoin might not be a forever status...

I think finding the right work/life balance is important and I feel this more as I get older. I do think sometimes it can be worthwhile taking a risk on a different role with more work but similar pay if it does genuinely provide experience that will benefit your career, and you view it as a temporary stepping stone rather than something you going to get locked in to for a long time and eventually burn out. I've done similar myself in the past.

Also, from past experience, I would say don't get attached to a particular opportunity or company (unless it is your own). If you aren't enjoying it or you see problems with the company then look for something else. Earlier in my career I worked for a smaller startup company which seemed like great opportunity to build something from the ground up. It wasn’t a great environment to work in, I put in a lot more work than I was being paid for thinking it would be rewarding in the long term, but the company ended up in administration a year later. From that experience I now value a lot more having work that I enjoy, good colleagues to work with, and a good working environment over other things.

This is very insightful. Thanks, Phil!

value aligned + meaningful relationships is key 🔑

Tough decision!

Off hours study is the standard for me. Its a bonus if you like the topic.

You're studying things for an employer outside of work and not being paid for it?

Patially true. My work is my hobby as well. And must say that it was first a hobby and later my income source.

This is hard to apply outside of IT.

Mostly learning things to keep up with the others who are way more experienced. This means it will not be like this forever. New tech education is done in the working hours.

The obstacle is the way 🧡
