Imagine the most vile, detestable, hateful person you can. That is the person whose right to speak needs to be protected.
We might be that person, for someone else.

Exactly, nobody said free speech is easy or comfortable. But it is needed to build opinions. We can idividually ignore opinions of "idiots" but we should not censor them.
Yeah, let em talk. Whatever. Earplugs.
Earplugs or point fingers on them and say if something is not acceptable. Inaccaptable actions and wordings need disqualification. I think this is an important part of civil courage.
I'm all for everyone being able to speak no matter how wrong they are, no matter how hateful they are, and no matter how evil I believe they are. On the other hand, I have the right to not listen, read, or watch them and should have the right to turn them off for me. They shouldn't be able to force me to listen any more than I should be able to silence them.
Right to free speech AND the right to free association
They can say whatever they want and we can walk away and talk to people we prefer speaking with.
When someone is silenced, it not only affects the speaker, it also infringes on the rights of those who want to listen.
Everyone one disagrees with is Hitler. Itβs always Hitler. So imagine Hitler.
If we censor his message, how can we learn from the past?

We find blue eyed Argentinians and ask them
I do not really agree that hate is something that needs to be defended. Yes this person can express. And it needs to be accepted that many may not agree on the form of expression on the points you mention. Since critique needs to be accepted in any direction.
I have a big problem with all the self elected free speech defenders that can not live with critique. I refer to people as Elon Musk whom is no more then a rich joke.
Free speech allows you to rebut or revile the ideas. I don't think anyone wants to defend hate, only a person's right to express it, at which point we can marginalize those ideas by expressing better ideas. Allowed to be compete in the open, truth and love always triumph in the end.
Though I must point out, that the ways of truth and love, being gentle, always seem to be losing the moment, but they win in the end.
