#Bitcoin has a history of prioritising decentralization over rapid adoption or short-term gains.

Yet we see on nostr 91% of Zaps are from custodial wallets.

Are we compromising Bitcoin's core values, or is it a justifiable trade-off?

I'm excited to see Olympus when Zeus releases it!

I think akin to multiple types and layers of accounts; a custodial 'hot wallet' for 'coffee & an evening out' - will be one regularly used piece of a larger 'suite' of tools/layers/accts/security/hardware & cold wallets etc. -- I am fine with a custodial wallet for what I'm fine with losing in cash in a traditional wallet for instance. -- I do appreciate the point though. Though I do believe that as Bitcoin and the general awareness and education level of what it is and its potential and how it can be used to store value, the virtue of self-custody, etc. will add sufficient balance such that I hope it in some way does ameliorate your concern. Or so it seems from a perspective; there are many. ha!

TLDR: Hoping that as folks learn about HW wallets, multi signature, and long term self custody options -they will practice prudence in using these very convenient tools as they would 'cash' in a physical wallet in purse of pocket.

It's good to highlight, suggest we are still early in the lightening journey and super early with nostr - as more and better lightening options become available and more people join nostr this dynamic should change

I treat it like the cash I carry around for tips on a night at a concert. For me, a calculated trade-off.

Bitcoin is about people using their money the way they want.

My LN is custodial, that's not a dev problem. My LN is only ever a few bucks for spending. Worrying about custodial is like worrying that my cash is at risk if it falls out of my pocket. I don't care, it's my choice, it's $20

I use getalby - it integrates neatly with Nostr and my paywall. Perfect.

BTC is hard non state money. THAT is what matters and ADOPTION is what needs to be pushed.

EVERYTHING else is second order. Even privacy (because TBH, if the Gvt is after you, you'll break your own privacy the moment your crypto gets used to buy real stuff more than groceries). Build it, enable it, but don't fuss about people who don't like your view of perfection and happen to like simple.
