And more importantly. Why does he still bother me?
Awww, sending you a hug π« I am sorry that he bothers you.
I'm guessing we start using PoW much more widely than we do now. It's defined in... I think NIP-14? 17? Something in the teens.
Iβm afraid they decided to hung him by the balls at the morrow
It's really interesting to me, this. I'm old enough to remember the last system that was really impossible to censor. It was called #Usenet, though some called it #NewsGroups.
Exactly the same thing happened. One they realised it couldn't be censored, they started spamming it. Usenet came up with a solution. I hope #nostr does too.
I'll end by checking you realise this can be filtered very effectively at the client level byt muting the user. This user always has reply in his nick.
How was it solved on Usenet?
Spam is obvious on an uncensored, decentralised platform where it's nearly free to create it.
Either cost of spam has to go up or the price to defend against it be way below the price to create it.
Well some servers like cis.dfm.de would offerer filtered access while other severs like #Altopia would offer completely uncensored access. Some would offer something in between, like #Giganews.
The choices were well documented so users made an informed choice.
People could also pay more for servers with long retention and and more securely encrypted access to the sever.
It evolved over a long time though; more than 10 years. Whether we can do it faster? Here's hoping.
