Some years back I had a message from a man in San Diego asking for permission to paint one of my photographs of a glass of wine being poured, which has since been used for a label on wine bottles in California. I got paid for it, so was quite an amazing story in the life of one photo.
What a great story! I would like to see that photo. I didn’t receive any payment for my rug motif. I followed my instincts and told her she could use it. I had forgotten about that story, but today, after getting her message, it all came back to me.
We took a whole sequence of photos in the studio that my friend owned and up to Alamy they went back in 2006 or something like that. Then one day this chap contacted me, a painter who had been commissioned to design a label for a wine company in California who’d come across the images on Alamy and we did a deal.
He shared the story of the painting coming to life from concept to completion and tell you what, if only this took place over Nostr but this was before Bitcoin just about.
I shall find the details of the end product, all in a chain of emails somewhere.
So from a tiny studio in London, then over a decade or so to the image being discovered and put to use in California. It blew my mind.
